Episode 60: You Are Enough with Ijmal Haider
EPISODE OVERVIEW
This was such a special conversation with Ijmal Haider, creator of the Hidden Spoons Organization and host of the “Help Us” channel on YouTube. Living with ulcerative colitis for several years while spearheading many events, projects, and organizations geared towards supporting people with chronic illness, Ijmal is a shining light in this community. He’s a patient advocate — someone who advocates for better care for those who are struggling to receive proper diagnosis and/or care.
On top of discussing what he does to advocate for our chronic illness community, Ijmal shared about his challenging moments and how they have led him to find what’s truly important. These include honesty, medical care that gives him access to a better quality of life, communicating well with his body, and connecting with others living with chronic illness.
These days, Ijmal is focused on lifting up others by sharing their stories, and on being a support to those who need it.
Highlights
Here are some of the key moments in my conversation with Ijmal:
Eliminating shame from our conversations about health challenges
Ostomy bags and educating the people we love most (even parents)
Learning to communicate well with your body
Making peace with each step of our medical journeys
Why each day, no matter your energy level, you’re always enough
The inspiration behind his many chronic illness projects
Ijmal is a true gift to our community, and I’m so excited to share this episode with you.
